![]() ![]() Otherwise, the game comes across as an exercise in creative masturbation on the part of the developers. Playing the first game is not necessary, as the events are neatly recapped in the prologue, but developing an emotional attachment to the protagonists is of utmost importance. If you can tolerate the borderline gratuitous violence, the game provides a powerfully intimate experience. From the get-go, the game pulls no punches. You play as Ellie, the rambunctious former sidekick, now bona fide badass huntress as she sets out on a vengeful warpath. The Last of Us Part 2 tears your heart out of your chest and rather than slowly rebuilding it, it throws it onto a roaring fire and forces you to watch it burn from the Clockwork Orange chair. ![]() Unlike its predecessor, however, it does not follow the initial tragedy with any levity or heartwarming moments of human connection. In my eyes, they should have just stuck with the Jak 4 concept instead of this dumpster fire.Much like its predecessor, TLOU2 begins the player’s journey with an emotional gut punch. I basically feel like i wasted 7 years of waiting, $62.45, and roughly 26 hours of my life playing a poorly written, bland, and sloppy game who shows it off in spades after losing their original writer. But in conclusion you get a hamfisted "revenge is bad" narrative slammed down your throat after literally tearing through slogs of enemies the entire game to get to the finale and it being "Well i did the damage to get here, and I'm literally about to kill you but hey, even though you killed my father figure, go on and leave now." And then Ellie just lets Abby walk on, after getting 2 fingers chomped off. Not to mention the REAL kicker of it getting trailer after trailer showing you playing as Ellie and following her story, you have the worst bait and switcheroo of you playing the majority of it as the new unlikable character, Abby, really sucked. I also didn't feel sorry for her narrative even when the game literally pulled me by the hand and expected me to as well. Abby's introduction for revenge for being the "daughter" of the doctor you killed in TLoU 1 was fine IN CONCEPT, but her character as a whole feels bland and not fleshed out at all. ![]() It's so seemingly uncharacteristic you wouldn't believe it when you play it. The downside that really hit me is not only do you lose a character like Joel who was a well loved character for NUMEROUS YEARS, but he also gets falsely advertised in a trailer, and then killed in the most asinine way. And, I get the whole "what if WE'RE the real monsters" motif, but come on Naughty Dog. Cordyceps are the secondary fodder to the humans (pregnant, trans, and whatever come between) and animals you fight throughout (dogs included). Expect dated QTEs, horrendous AI, very same-y models scattered throughout, and combat that's meh to say the least. The graphics push the PS4 to its limits and look great however you might run into frame rate slowdown with an older console. Honestly, waited 7 years for this and managed to pick up and play a copy a few days early. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No wonder why HBO’s The Last of Us is happening with Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin on-board for the live adaptation. Naughty Dog, this is easily your guys’ best work since Uncharted 2 and there is a reason why you guys are the top underdogs in the gaming business on delivering the very best experience as possible and I hope you guys get royally compensated for creating this incredible follow-up masterpiece. Everything ranging from the newly fleshed acessibility gameplay mechanics all the way to the superb writing by Neil Druckmann and Westworld’s Halley Gross is pure excellence. The first game is all about love, and the sequel is all about hate and you can see why how rare TLOU2 is compared to the first game and it’s unbelievable. Do I need to say more? Play the damn game and fully experience a masterfully crafted sequel that will keep you on the edge of your seat and witness the sheer brutality that needs to be played. Do I need to say more? Play All it takes is a little push for Ellie to go mad and her quest for revenge story is a brutalistic masterpiece.
